Five men were shot, two fatally, in Southeast, and another was fatally shot in Greenbelt early yesterday morning, police said.
The shootings in the District took place about 1:15 a.m. in the Pomeroy Road area. Antoine Holroyd, 18, of the 2600 block of Jasper Street SE, and Michael Simms, 16, of the 2600 block of Martin Luther King Avenue SE both died of gunshot wounds to the head, said Sgt. Joe Gentile, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department.
He said two of the surviving victims are 17 and 21 years old. The age of the other survivor was not available.
The five men were standing on a street corner when a dark-colored vehicle approached and two men got out. “At least one, if not both, fired into the crowd,” Sgt. Gentile said. “It is unclear who was a specific target.”
The gunmen got back in the vehicle and fled, he said.
D.C. police are looking for help tracking down anyone involved in the shootings. The department offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of people responsible for any homicide in the District.
In Greenbelt, police found Carlton Anthony Sharpe, 20, of the 6200 block of Breezewood Drive, with a fatal gunshot wound after they responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Edmonston Court and Edmonston Terrace at 12:54 a.m.
Police said Mr. Sharpe was talking to a friend in front of an apartment building when they were approached by a small group of people who began a verbal altercation with the two. Members of the group attacked Mr. Sharpe and his friend and several gunshots were fired.
Mr. Sharpe’s friend fled and called police.
Police said a witness said the assailants possibly fled in a black sport utility vehicle.
