When the livin' is easy and the air balmy -- OK, hot -- watching dance with all its sensual allure is an appealing way to spend a summer evening or even a lunch hour.

At Wolf Trap -- Two major black American companies, Ronald K. Brown/Evidence and Philadanco, have appeared separately at Wolf Trap in the past. On July 18, they are joining forces in "For Truth," a world premiere that was commissioned by Wolf Trap.

Mr. Brown has created work for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and is one of the most talented choreographers of his generation, known for the deep spiritual underpinning that informs his movement.

Each of the companies will dance a work of its own in addition to coming together in "For Truth," a large-scale project that celebrates the emancipation of women around the world.

The following week, July 25, Noche Flamenca makes its fifth appearance at Wolf Trap, bringing with it from Spain a group of singers, musicians and dancers that interact to create the spirit of flamenco onstage.

A newcomer to the soaring outdoor venue will be the Trey McIntyre Project, a summer-only group making its first appearance in the area Aug. 8.

All these performances at Wolf Trap begin at 8:30. 877/WOLFTRAP. $26 to $34 (lawn $10)

At Dance Place -- It's not al fresco, but part of the charm of Dance Place is its constancy: Month in, month out, it brings original dance to its black-box theater. This summer will see an unusually light schedule of performances.
