Ok, so the archbishop is a nerd.
Well, isn't that just a religious "slur?"
I am insulted, you -- along with whomever edited this article -- need to be fired for religious prejudice!
I got to "policy wonk" and quit reading. That is disrespectful and misleading. Try "consistently orthodox" or "a faithful and steadfast leader".
Bishop Chaput is full of the grace of God. The Democrats are only interested in the Satan worshipers and baby murderers. Why would they invite him?
Agree with previous posters. Only in PC America could a true man of God be considered a policy wonk! As if the 10 Commandments are the equivalent of lowering the speed limit to 55 or banning trans fat from our Fries. Having said that, I am pleased that Archbishop Chaput will not be sharing a dias (and lending any support, even implied) to Carter, Gore, Daley, Kerry, Bill, Hillary, Obama and the Democrat Party. Their message couldn't be further from Catholic Church Doctrine. I'm surprised that the democrats didn't line up "June Bride" Bishop Gene Robinson for prime time slot. He best defines religious orthodoxy for the democrats.
As a Catholic, I am troubled by "pro-life democrats" that say they are Catholic and pro life. The current democrat party's positions on abortion, gay marriage etc. are antithetical to Catholic teachings. So called pro life dems routinely vote along with their pro abortion dems instead of putting together a pro-life coalition in the party. So long as the dem party goes in it's current direction, no Catholic should vote democrat or claim to be one.
As far as separating politics and religion our Founding Fathers thought the contrary. For example Paul Adams In an address to military leaders said, 'We have no government armed with the power capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and true religion. Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious
people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.'
