Both Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama need to reach beyond the Mexican-Hispanic community if they want our votes. Not all Hispanics in this country support the National Council of La Raza (“A look at ’The Race’” Commentary, Saturday, e-edition), and not all Hispanics are of Mexican descent.

I, for one, am quite content with being an American who prefers to speak English and has no problem interacting with whites.

Being of Puerto Rican and Dominican heritage, I take umbrage that La Raza (the Race) has managed to speak for an entire ethnic group consisting of more than two dozen culturally distinct nationalities.

This Klan-with-a-Tan outfit does not speak for me any more than the Ku Klux Klan speaks for white Americans.
