BULL! After all the years and prominence of the abortion issue, I cannot believe that anyone, especially anyone working for a Catholic organization, is so ignorant as to believe that participating in anyway, shape or form in assisting or obtaining an abortion is permissible. Again, some of our dear weak-kneed bishops seem to have failed to keep their sheep educated about Church teachings or were they just "looking the other way?" Again! I'm disgusted!

The Catholic Bishops are bought and paid for. Their Catholic Charities receive billions (with a B) from the federal govt. These feckless bishops like Dilorenzio and Loverde are shams. They are to the Catholic Church what Kenneth Lay was to Enron.

Henry the eighth would have a lot easier time with the American bishops then the ones he had to deal with. Perhaps he wouldn't have had to behead as many as he did if he had the USCCB to help him out. Dina...a devout catholic.

This confirms our suspicions. When money talks, the Bishops listen, the souls of the faithful be, well---damned.

I hope you took a few minutes to pray for all involved after venting your spleens. While I agree that it's ludicrous to think anyone working for a Catholic organization wouldn't know the Church's clear teachings (or could be allowed to work there without knowing them), I also think we're too ready to paint all the bishops with a broad black brush. I see far more talk about how poorly the weak ones are doing than I do about how well the strong ones are doing. Don't credit to evil intent what can be chalked up to incompetence; Satan gets at least as much mileage out of the latter. My request: be vocal in your support the many who are true, and pray for all of them. Please. Blessings, Matt

Dear Matt, to assume that some of us who are "venting spleen" DO NOT praise, support and pray for the courageous bishops who defend Church teaching is rather judgmental and jumping to conclusions about our motives. Many of us who speak up against the abuses or lack of oversight by some of our weaker leaders do so in an effort to let them know that we are aware of their shortcomings. This is done in the hope that they will listen and change. It should be evident from the comments made that the faithful are alert, watching and listening to everything they do. No more turning a blind eye and deaf ear to their activities. Surely you concede that it was the acquiesence of those in the pews that also allowed errors to go unchecked. Catholic Charities has come under fire for some of its misguided actions and will continue to do so until it rights itself and adheres to its purpose faithfully following the tenets of the Catholic Church. Abortion is not one of them. If many of these organizations must fold because they depend on government funding to survive then let them fold. There are many ways a faithful Christian can perform acts of mercy and charity without compromising their Faith. I for one, quite supporting the works of Catholic Charities a long time ago and now give my money and support to organizations I KNOW are faithful and evangelical in their work. Stella

This is an excellent example of why the churches are so gun-ho and "sanctuary" minded in their support of illegals. Follow the money. This would not have happened if there was not a climate that looked the other way in the so-called "Catholic" Charities organization. I'll bet that giving birth control to those in foster care is not that uncommon...just hypocritical. As a Catholic I don't look to the bishops for moral guidance as they have no moral authority. They believe they are above the laws and don't have to answer any questions. Guess they are just waiting for their day in court. Isn't it interesting that the supervisor in the bishop's organization was just suspended? Maybe the person knows something we don't. Prayer is needed but withdrawing financial support gets the message delivered at the grass roots level.
