FreeEnergy

Not enough credit is being given to the high gas prices this past year and it's serious damage on our economy and society. That one factor alone has caused serious stress in both individuals and businesses. A record number of homes and jobs have been lost as a direct result. And, while we are doing the happy dance around the lower prices at the pumps OPEC is announcing cuts to manipulate the prices upward again. We must get on with becoming energy independent. We can't take another year like this past. There is a wonderful new book out about the energy crisis and what it would take for America to become energy independent. It covers every aspect of oil, what it's uses are besides gasoline, our reserves, our depletion of it. Every type of alternative energy is covered and it's potential to replace oil. He even has proposed legislative agenda's that would be necessary to implement these changes along with time frames. This book is profoundly informative and our country needs to become more informed and move forward with becoming energy independent. Green technology would not only provide clean cheap energy it would create millions of badly needed new jobs. The Book is called The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW by Jeff Wilson. Our politicians all need to read this book.

Here's an economic plan for Obumbles: Get the hell out of the way and let the free market system work. Oh, and never, ever forget about the destructive nature of dim-O-cratic social engineerng policies which are largely responsible for the sub-prime mess and subsequent market meltdown. Those good intentions will really get after ya'. *sniff*

If Obama really wants to jump start the economy, and do it now, before it destroys what's left of people's retirement savings, he has got to say he will NOT raise taxes in the current economy. That will do more to restore confidence in the market than his plans to spend billions on a bunch of union jobs to rebuild our infrastructure. Come on Obama, just say it. Or do you want people to continue to feel the pain just so you can march in on Day 1 and play the hero? http://timetorevoltamerica.blogspot.com

The big weasel word in Obama's plan is "save". Obama cannot fail with "... a plan to save or create 2.5 million jobs by 2011 ...." The jobs that he fails to create will be replaced by jobs that the Democrats deem to be saved. Can't possibly fail to come up with 2.5 million. Are we that dumb???

FreeEnergy brings up a good point. If we are all so leveraged on credit that we can't adjust to the booms and busts of the oil markets (high gas prices), then we put the entire economic system at risk. Along with that, our national security has been severely compromised though out this fiasco. On a personal level, Just living within your means and having a pad or margin of fiscal safety (savings) to ride through these busts would have gone a long way to moderating this mess. The less energy we use, the more money we can put into our savings accounts. I know this is America, and we have the freedom to own the vehicle of our choice, or live in the home that we can get financing for but is that a prudent choice? I think we all need to live a little smaller, and act more responsibly in our own personal fiscal affairs. I realize that there were other factors brought to bear here as others have brought up on this post.

Republicans always claim during campaigns to be all about helping "Joe the plumber". Once the election's over they go right back to serving only the wealthiest one percent. Republicans eagerly bailed out the Citigroup people who took our money then laid off 75,000 'Joe the bank tellers" and "Joann the secretaries". Now the "Joe the auto factory worker" needs a bailout, Republicans are the "party of NO". They openly scoff at the idea of helping union laborers who they claim are overpaid. The current Republican administration gave Goldman Sachs $10 billion, then Goldman handed out $6.5 billion in bonuses. But Republicans focused attention on what kind of jet the beggars from Detroit flew to Washington in. Millions of real people who work hard and unlike "Joe the plumber" pay our taxes, are really hurting. What we don't need is for Republicans to block the bailout of these workers merely for the sake of opposing Democrats and further to deny help to workers that largely tend to vote Democratic. What Americans don't need is for Republicans to cause millions of autoworkers to be fired, so the taxpayers support them with unemployment, welfare and more. At least if they have jobs, their taxes will help us pay for their lousy bailout.

Any increase in Government Jobs, including jobs due to government spending, (ie highway projects, health care paid for by Medicare/Medicaid, school jobs, university jobs, etc.)do not count as new jobs. Govt spending is a zero sum gain. Simple job movement, (private sector to public sector) is not job creation. I agree "saved jobs" is an unquanitfiable number and is not to be considered. Regan did not use "jobs saved" as an economic indicator.

Klaxsch said: "Republicans eagerly bailed out the Citigroup people" Really? Democrats have controlled Congress now for 2 years. This is now Obama's economy, lock, stock and barrel. Elections have consequences. The average salary+benefits of "Joe the auto worker" is $140,000. So don't start WHINING about the UAW "needing" a bailout. GM and Ford need to go bankrupt. The UAW needs to get real.

2.5 million new jobs by 2011 will not happen under CommunityOrganizerMan's socialism. And high taxes. And government directed economy. It's been tried before: Soviet Union, China, North Korea, ...

2.5 million jobs. Well just the other day, the left-wing illuminati said we would lose 1 million more jobs. So does that take their promise down to 1.5 million jobs?
