1980 U.S. Soccer Bowl - Pele may have been gone, but Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto and Giorgio Chinaglia guided the New York Cosmos to the North American Soccer League title with a 3-0 win over the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Chinaglia, the NASL’s all-time leading goal scorer, tallied twice.

1997 MLS Cup - Jaime Moreno and Tony Sanneh found the net and D.C. United claimed its second of four MLS titles with a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids in front of more than 57,000.

U.S. men defeat Argentina - On June 13, 1999, Joe-Max Moore scored in the 88th minute and the U.S. men delivered a 1-0 upset victory over two-time world champion Argentina.



Ronaldinho debuts for Barcelona - The Brazilian star played his first game for the Spanish club in a 2003 exhibition against AC Milan during a tour of the U.S. Ronaldinho registered one goal and an assist in a 2-0 win over the defending European champions.

Adu’s pro debut - Fourteen-year-old prodigy Freddy Adu became the youngest player to appear in a U.S. professional sport since 1887 when he came on as a second-half substitute in D.C. United’s 2004 season opener.

1994 World Cup - Spain defeated Switzerland 3-0 in front of 53,121 in a Round of 16 match during the 1994 Cup.
