The only safe economic stimulus is to reduce taxes and cut govt. spending. Anything else is socialism designed to make citizens even more dependent on government. The GOP needs to return to their principles and fight socialism with every ounce of their power. If Obama really wants to ensure economic progress for this country, he could also push for term limits on Congress...

These pols are going to spend America right off into the abyss, grinning about it all the way.

Ladies & gents, welcome the Nanny State, headed by Premeire, I mean PRESIDENT Obama & Politburo Chairwoman Pelosi. Oh goodie! I can't wait for MY check, paid for by MY MONEY & everyone else's! THAT'LL get people to wanna work harder. Nothing like creating a constituency of dependency.

Instead of lowering taxes, cutting spending and encouraging Americans to live within their means, which IMHO is the right answer to bring the U.S. out of this depression, politicians are doing the exact opposite. This same plan was tried in Japan and failed. The question we should be asking our representatives is will it work and how? So far, all I've heard is a bunch of hypothetical mumbo-jumbo with no clear purpose other than to throw money at beleaguered economy by borrowing more money, which is the root cause of our economic woes in the first place. Albert Einstein said: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Perhaps those who control the purse strings could use a little refresher course in history.

Republicans didn't wait for the votes to be tallied back in November to start working on how to stop Obama from succeeding in office. Any success Obama has in bringing about America's economic recovery will further weaken chances for Republicans to regain power in Washington. Republicans believe America's financial success is not in their best interests and they vow to do everything they can to prevent it. Think about that as your situation gets worse.

dmjakers, If I used your thinking I would blame the entire crisis on CRP and the D's. But that type of thinking doesn't accomplish anything. We need to hold the D's and R's both accountable. They did it together and keep us distracted blaming the other while the largest movement of $$ is being made right in front of us. Already treasury is having problems knowing where all the current bailout money has gone.

This has little to do political parties. This is about poor governance coming from both sides of the isle.

America, we have built our house on the sand. We are finally beginning to reap what the "if it feels good, do-it!" generation sowed in the 60's. Free love, booze and drugs, live for the day, drown in debt, and leverage our futures and our children's inheritances to the hilt. It's time to get back to good "old-fashioned" Biblical values like: hard work, faithful stewardship of God's blessings, sharing generously with our neighbors, and putting our Faith and Trust in God, and not our increasingly god-less government, and certainly not in the "almighty" dollar. We did not get into this mess overnight, and it will not be solved by following the same foolish principles that we have been following for the past 50 years. As God said, through the prophet Jeremiah: This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." Sadly, most of the upcoming generation has never even opened the Good Book. Too bad, as it reveals the Answer to all our problems.

dmjakers is right on target. R's and D's need to work together and stop this perpetuate the party bull. These are seriously difficult times and we need to work together to solve the crisis we're attacking rather than trying to tear down one leadership for another. Some guy is predicting America will be divided and be done away with in the near future. Let's pull together and work these difficulties out and make our nation strong and united.

White House officials and Senate Democrats met in private three times last week to craft health care legislation. Do you think these discussions should be more public?
