TORONTO | Right-hander Shawn Hill has agreed to a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays and was invited to major league spring training.
Hill was 1-1 with a 5.25 ERA in three starts for San Diego last year before going on the disabled list April 26 with an inflamed right elbow. The 28-year-old, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, had elbow ligament replacement surgery for the second time in June.
He also had the so-called “Tommy John” surgery in 2004 after he made his major league debut for the Montreal Expos and pitched for Canada at the Athens Olympics.
Hill has an 8-16 record and 4.95 ERA in 40 starts over five big league seasons for the Expos/Washington Nationals and the Padres.
