Speculation has again begun to mount over the impact that a third-party candidate might have on the general election. Throughout the past 100 years or so, third-party candidates have had disparate impacts.

John Edwards' endorsement reflects Sen. Barack Obama's greatest political strength at least in the short term: his ability to be all things to all men and all women.
