BY THE NUMBERS

41-16

Run by Georgetown against Pittsburgh that began with the Hoyas trailing 33-18 and 3:32 remaining in the first half and ended with the Hoyas leading 59-49 with 39 seconds left in the game. Georgetown forwards Jeff Green and Brandon Bowman scored 29 of the team’s points during the run.

SEEN AND HEARD

With a pre-Pittsburgh RPI of 29, a near-certain top-15 ranking and two top-10 victories, the Hoyas have all but secured the program’s first NCAA tournament berth since 2001 and are now playing for Big East tournament and NCAA seeding. Yesterday’s victory gives the Hoyas sole possession of fourth place in the league standings and the inside track for the final bye in the league tournament.

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

The award should be shared by the forward tandem of Green and Bowman, who sparked the team’s second-half surge on both ends of the floor. Though Green scored a season-high 22 points, Bowman’s performance (15 points, four assists, four rebounds, two blocks) might have been even more impressive. Not only did the senior from Santa Monica, Calif., limit his mistakes (one turnover), he turned in one of his stronger defensive efforts.

Said Bowman: “Coach [John Thompson III] is always talking to me about my defense. He says if I pick that up, the sky’s the limit. I felt like I was just out there the first half, and the coaching staff felt the same. So, me being a senior leader, I had to pick it up in the second half, and I felt like I did that.”
