GOP congressman introduces birth certificate bill

Freshman Republican Rep. Bill Posey of Florida has introduced a bill aimed at quelling persistent Internet rumors from the right-wing base of the GOP about President Obama's citizenship.

"Opponents of President Obama are raising the birth certificate issue as a means of questioning his eligibility to serve as president," Posey said in a statement. "This bill, by simply requiring such documentation for future candidates for president, will remove this issue as a reason for questioning the legitimacy of a candidate elected as president."

Several right-leaning outlets, such as WorldNetDaily and Newsmax, repeatedly have questioned Obama's citizenship. Posey's bill, H.R. 1503, would  "require the principal campaign committee of a candidate for election to the office of president to include with the committee's statement of organization a copy of the candidate's birth certificate, together with such other documentation as may be necessary to establish that the candidate meets the qualifications for eligibility to the Office of President under the Constitution."

WND has chronicled several legal challenges filed by those who believe Obama may not be eligible under the Constitution to be president. Obama's supporters have dismissed them as "garbarge."

Last year, while these allegations were in full force, several outlets, including the Los Angeles Times and the Daily Kos, reprinted a copy of Obama's Hawaiian birth certificate to quiet allegations regarding Obama's citizenship.

Correction: They did not reprint a copy of Obama's Birth Cert, they actually only printed a Hawaii COLB, which amazingly even foreign born residents have been able to obtain in Hawaii. The original birth certificate was ordered sealed by Obama once questioned. Quote "Last year, while these allegations were in full force, several outlets, including the Los Angeles Times and the Daily Kos, reprinted a copy of Obama's Hawaiian birth certificate to quiet allegations regarding Obama's citizenship."

If and only If Obama were eligible, he would by now have provided his birth certificate, and would have had no problem sharing his scholastic records. He obviously has ALOT to hide or else he would NOT be hiding/fighting from the numerous law suits. Transparency is NOT what this usurper is capable of providing !!! philllllip said: "i suppose, like much of america, i just assumed he was eligible." And, like much of America, you would have been correct. The Certification of Live Birth is an official State of Hawaii document that clearly says that Obama was born in Honolulu. There is no credible evidence pointing in any other direction, while his opponents are falling over themselves trying to come up with theories of ineligibility.

I don't know this FL Congressman from Adam, but no matter. This is a meaningless political ploy that won't satisfy anyone except maybe a certain RINOed Congressman in FL. We have a usurper in The White House with his finger on the nuclear buttons. Nothing could be more dangerous to our nation, disregarding his Marxist leanings for the moment. The document that the DailyKOS and factcheck.com promoted last year was a forgery. This has been documented by experts. And it wasn't the vault long form Birth Certificate with the delivery room doctor's name, hospital's name, etc. As anyone who knows about these things knows, the original B/C has the delivery room doctor's name and hospital name. The document foisted by his left-wing sites last year didn't even have the stamp on the proper side of it and had had the date altered making it an obvious forgery. There are websites that document these and other inconsistencies with B/C documents. So, if the one and only document posted by his front sites is a forgery, what does that tells us? The word "usurper" comes to mind which is why many of us believe the country is in mortal danger.

Hey levotb -- Are you aware that even WorldNetDaily has verified that the COLB is authentic and that the claims of forgery are bogus? "A separate WND investigation into Obama's birth certificate utilizing forgery experts also found the document to be authentic. The investigation also revealed methods used by some of the bloggers to determine the document was fake involved forgeries, in that a few bloggers added text and images to the certificate scan that weren't originally there." http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=73214

Ask your own senator and congress person, there are only 2 pieces of evidence the government, media and Obama refer to 1: A Certificate of Live Birth (COLB) on Factcheck.com, and a statement by the Hawaii Health Director. The COLB, like thousands of similar certificates issued by Hawaii after becoming a state, say the place of birth is Honolulu regardless of where you were born. It isn't what you could use to get a passport. You would need a Certified Birth Certificate. Obama's mother also got one for his sister, who was born in Indonesia. Sun Yatsen, the father of modern China has one too. He was born in Guangdong China, and first visited the US at the age of 14. Three of Obama's family members gave affidavits he was born in Kenya. Two Kenyan government officials also said he was born there. Obama's mother was too young to confer ANY US citizenship to him if he was born in Kenya. 2: Chiyome Fukino, the health director of Hawaii never said she has a Hawaiian birth certificate for Obama, or where he was born. She said" “Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai‘i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai‘i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures." This is all she said regarding the type of document she has despite numerous attempts to have her explain her cryptically meaningless statement. FactCheck. This is what the most powerful government on earth claims to have used to certify the eligibility of the most powerful man. As if we don't have the Secret Service, FBI, CIA, NSA,,,,,, Factcheck. I wrote to my representatives and they all referred to Factcheck and the Fukino statements, both of which are meaningless. Remember this when you apply for little league for your child and have to show a real birth certificate. The total injustice of the story is that it was brought up by a prominent Clinton Democrat last June, and completely ignored by our representatives and the media. This should have been taken care of before the primaries. The courts determined that WE The People didn't have the standing to file a case, and now they say We should have filed before the election. (more than a dozen cases WERE filed!) This is a Constitutional fiasco. It seems our representatives don't think the Constitution and representative government matter any more.

yerbrojoe said: "The COLB, like thousands of similar certificates issued by Hawaii after becoming a state, say the place of birth is Honolulu regardless of where you were born." Absolutely untrue! The COLB is an official State of Hawaii document. The state takes responsibility for its accuracy. The burden of proof is on you to show that it doesn't mean what it clearly says. "It isn't what you could use to get a passport." Absolutely untrue! It is what citizens of Hawaii routinely use to get their passports. "Sun Yatsen, the father of modern China has one too." LOL!! He has one what -- a State-of-Hawaii-certified document that says he was born in Honolulu? I doubt it -- it was issued in 1904, more than 50 years before there even was a State of Hawaii! Nice try, but you are just spouting nonsense. Get your facts straight!

Here's a link to se Sun Yatsen's hawaiian certificate, which states his birthplace as Honolulu http://www.scribd.com/doc/9830547/Sun-Yatsen-Certification-of-Live-Birth-in-Hawaii

Yes. Look at the date on the bottom. Now look up when Hawaii became a state. Now tell me whether Sun Yat-Sen's certificate is governed by the same set of laws as Obama's. What on earth are you talking about?

levotb

Hey MaineSkeptic, Thanks for that link. You are correct. WND's Drew Zahn DID post a 8/23/08 story stating that WND had researched the COLB posted at factcheck.org and DailyKOS and [WND] said it appears to be authentic. They further stated that the "experts" who called the doc "a forgery" were using questionable methods at arriving at their conclusion. Thanks, again.

levotb

However, MaineSkeptic, that doesn't change the fact that 1) There are no hospital records of his birth 2) There are no addresses given where the Obamas were supposed to have lived in Hawaii 3) There has been no vault long form B/C showing the delivery doctor's name and hospital name As those commenting here have correctly stated, ANY person could get a Hawaiian COLB!! It is NOT "authoritative proof" that Obama was born in Hawaii. So, while the WND story in August may in fact be true, it is NOT "authoritative proof"--only the vault B/C/ would be proof. The reasons have been stated by others here already.

levotb -- But the story continues! On December 20, WND published another article -- this time by Joseph Farah himself -- where he tried to show that the article you read was being widely misquoted. You can judge for yourself: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=84065
