Cheney accuses Obama of 'libel' against CIA interrogators

Maintaining his stature as one of the most forceful defenders of the Bush Administration's defense policies former Vice President Dick Cheney accused President Obama of committing "libel" against CIA interrorgators on Wednesday.

Mr. Cheney’s criticized the Obama White House in a wide-ranging address on foreign policy matters for abandoning commitments to allies in Poland and the Czech Republic in favor of the Russians, sacrificing American intelligence officials to satisfy the political left and "dithering" on taking action in Afghanistan, among other things.

The speech, delivered to the Center for Security Policy, comes as the White House considers U.S. Commander of Afghanistan Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s request for an additional 40,000 troops and struggles with the legal consequences of shutting down Guantanamo Bay. On the domestic front, most of political Washington is consumed with massive health care reform plans moving through Congress.

Meanwhile, Keep America Safe, a new 501c4 co-founded by the Weekly Standard’s William Kristol and Mr. Cheney’s daughter, Liz, has been created to pressure the Obama Administration on security issues. Mr. Cheney’s Wednesday speech was published in full by Mr. Kristol on the Weekly Standard’s website, with several selected highlights noting what Mr. Cheney had to say about Afghanistan, American allies who have been spurned and CIA interrogators.

In the speech, Mr. Cheney charged that President Obama has "filled the air with vague and useless platitude" when talking about torture and by calling enhanced interrogation technigques "torture" he has committed “libel” against CIA interrogators whom Mr. Cheney described as “dedicated professionals who acted honorably and well, in our country’s name and in our country’s cause.”

“What’s more, to completely rule out enhanced interrogation in the future, in favor of half-measures, is unwise in the extreme. In the fight against terrorism, there is no middle ground, and half-measures keep you half exposed,” he said.

“The White House must stop dithering while America’s armed forces are in danger,” the former vice president said at another point in his speech.

“Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries. Waffling, while our troops on the ground face an emboldened enemy, endangers them and hurts our cause.”

The Obama Administration resembles the Jerry Springer Show, and many Americans seem to like that. 2010 elections will take the wind out of Bam Bam's sails. Important note: Look what it takes to get our attention citizens. Visit the mirror more often please.

Thank God for strong country loving men such as Cheney. He sees and smells a skunk and calls it what it is NOT trying to pretend it is a sweet smelling socialist perfume. He understands what real and present danger we are in and it is not Fox News or the right who is the enemy. Our real enemies are laughing all the way to the missile sites

I am so glad to see someone speak up against the lies and appeasement that the Obama administration uses in its security policies. They simply do not work and to trash our heroes and weaken our ability to gain vital intelligence agianst a relentless and viscious enemy is pure folly. Time to wake up! Good for Cheney!

Cheney is correct, The Obama administration is waffling on foreign policy, and has left some of our allies out to hang & dry. Although Obama will eventually make a decision on sending more troops into Afghanistan, I think he is trying to figure how to do this without making himself look bad since he just won The Nobel Prize, (a joke I might add...) We need to get our troops some serious help with reinforcements asap. If we don't, The Taliban & Al-Qaeda will be so embedded within that country we will do no good. Then it will be just to pull the troops out, come home & wait for an even bigger attack than 9-11was.

George Bush and Dick Cheney were the worst team to ever invade the White House. These two criminals (who never won an election), Lied through their teeth throughout their terms and destroyed the worlds economy. To the supporters of these morons who constantly say: "They kept us safe". Must now admit that such a low bar has been achieved by their nemesis Obama. Eat it haters. You are un-American.

Dick Cheney is a useless, evil blowhard. He's also incredibly stupid. Libel is when you make a false/defamatory statement against someone in WRITING. Dear Dick, I think you meant "slander", you moron.
