Cheney accuses Obama of 'libel' against CIA interrogators

Maintaining his stature as one of the most forceful defenders of the Bush Administration's defense policies former Vice President Dick Cheney accused President Obama of committing "libel" against CIA interrogators on Wednesday.

In a wide-ranging address on foreign policy matters, Mr. Cheney criticized the Obama White House for abandoning commitments to allies in Poland and the Czech Republic in favor of the Russians, sacrificing American intelligence officials to satisfy the political left and "dithering" on taking action in Afghanistan, among other things.

The speech, delivered to the Center for Security Policy, comes as the White House considers U.S. Commander of Afghanistan Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s request for an additional 40,000 troops and struggles with the legal consequences of shutting down Guantanamo Bay. On the domestic front, most of political Washington is consumed with massive health care reform plans moving through Congress.

Meanwhile, Keep America Safe, a new 501c4 co-founded by the Weekly Standard’s William Kristol and Mr. Cheney’s daughter, Liz, has been created to pressure the Obama Administration on security issues. Mr. Cheney’s Wednesday speech was published in full by Mr. Kristol on the Weekly Standard’s website, with several selected highlights noting what Mr. Cheney had to say about Afghanistan, American allies who have been spurned and CIA interrogators.

In the speech, Mr. Cheney charged that President Obama has "filled the air with vague and useless platitude" when talking about torture and by calling enhanced interrogation techniques "torture" he has committed “libel” against CIA interrogators whom Mr. Cheney described as “dedicated professionals who acted honorably and well, in our country’s name and in our country’s cause.”

“What’s more, to completely rule out enhanced interrogation in the future, in favor of half-measures, is unwise in the extreme. In the fight against terrorism, there is no middle ground, and half-measures keep you half exposed,” he said.

“The White House must stop dithering while America’s armed forces are in danger,” the former vice president said at another point in his speech.

“Make no mistake, signals of indecision out of Washington hurt our allies and embolden our adversaries. Waffling, while our troops on the ground face an emboldened enemy, endangers them and hurts our cause.”

The Obama Administration resembles the Jerry Springer Show, and many Americans seem to like that. 2010 elections will take the wind out of Bam Bam's sails. Important note: Look what it takes to get our attention citizens. Visit the mirror more often please.

Thank God for strong country loving men such as Cheney. He sees and smells a skunk and calls it what it is NOT trying to pretend it is a sweet smelling socialist perfume. He understands what real and present danger we are in and it is not Fox News or the right who is the enemy. Our real enemies are laughing all the way to the missile sites

I am so glad to see someone speak up against the lies and appeasement that the Obama administration uses in its security policies. They simply do not work and to trash our heroes and weaken our ability to gain vital intelligence agianst a relentless and viscious enemy is pure folly. Time to wake up! Good for Cheney!

Cheney is correct, The Obama administration is waffling on foreign policy, and has left some of our allies out to hang & dry. Although Obama will eventually make a decision on sending more troops into Afghanistan, I think he is trying to figure how to do this without making himself look bad since he just won The Nobel Prize, (a joke I might add...) We need to get our troops some serious help with reinforcements asap. If we don't, The Taliban & Al-Qaeda will be so embedded within that country we will do no good. Then it will be just to pull the troops out, come home & wait for an even bigger attack than 9-11was.

MarkD & bbmcgee20, It would be funny to find people ignorant enough to believe that garbage about Bush & Cheney if it hadn't already destroyed the country. Instead that kind of stupidity is terrifying. I am always amazed at the number of people who buy the leftist propaganda. Understand this, remember who told you, the Democrat party is the deadliest enemy this country has; deadlier than Al Queda, deadlier than the Taliban, deadlier than the Soviets.

Moral of the story is: Never elect a Community Organizer to do a Commander in Chief job!! All a Community Organizer can do is make more government hand out programs. The Commander in Chief job requires more than just saluting as you depart Air Force One. Stop listening to Axelrod and Emanuel and start listening to the General you appointed!!

TO: MarkD Until your email post, there were no evil comments made. And, even though you forgot; we were safer in the 8 years of Bush?Cheney than we are now. Like it or not - the facts are supportive of that. What IQ level does one have to be to dream up, "Eat it"??? It appears you are among the, TO: bbmcgee20 Does the bb stand for Bbbbbilly Biibbiins? So, with your correction of the misued word??? You then agree that the CIA was slandered I take it.

To all the ignorance piling up on this story and in this country: Mr. Cheney is a liar, a felon, and has sent thousands of our young men and women to their deaths in Iraq for no other reason then to assure record profits for his constituents in Halliburton. He touted the stability of the economy right up to the collapse and his destabilization policies were the cause. WAKE UP! President Obama is worthy of much of your criticism. He needs to stand up to the slander perpetrated by the insurance giants against a public option. He needs to make a decisive decision about Afghanistan. Socialism? Medicare has been around for years. Please, please, please read more my friends, and turn off the garbage on Fox, which even some republicans have acknowledged is pure garbage (or keep paying Rupurt Murdoch the billions he makes off your unsubstantiated fears, it's a free country.) God bless-

Ever watch OB get off Air Force 1 - with his dainty little fingers dangling in the wind? I cringe to watch the elitist feminity of it from the Pretender in Chief. I read a new bumber sticker the other day: "If Obama won't stand behind our troops, then tell him to go there and stand in front of them" What's the definition of FRAGGING? GOOGLE SEARCH: FRAGGING Jul 3, 2009 ... I recently read a speech by Noam Chomsky in which he says that during the Vietnam war "soldiers were fragging officers. ... www.straightdope.com/.../did-soldiers-really-frag-officers-in-vietnam - Cached - Similar I didn't creat the sticker - but it makes one think. And, to think in those terms in itself is a sad state of affairs - when our citizenry has no faith in the Commander in Chief protecting our men and women in harm's way. VERY SAD INDEED

George Bush insisted Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and was bent on using them to attack America. He insinuated Iraqi scientists were so sophisticated they were able to aerosolize anthrax and to blame for our anthrax attacks. Meanwhile Cheney was making the rounds pushing the ties between Saddam and OBL. George Bush proclaimed on national TV that Hans Blix didn't know what he was doing. You all are puppets. Weak minded nobodies who drive their redneck vehicles with "support our troops" magnets on the tailgate. I pity you. 3000 Americans died on 9/11 and your leader let him go free.
