There was an entertaining game at Verizon Center tonight. The Caps took too many penalties and blew two third-period leads before losing in OT to Columbus.

But all of that was overshadowed by Alex Ovechkin leaving the game early with an injury. Officially, Ovechkin is day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Unofficially, all of the video evidence points to a left shoulder/arm/chest problem that stemmed from a scrum near the Columbus bench.

Here's some reaction from all sides of the scrum:

"It was just a moment of the game," Ovechkin said. "Nothing happened. He just hit me, I hit him, there was a little battle there, nothing happened."

Brendan Morrison was one of the guys on the ice who got pulled into the fracas.

"Initially, I think [Ovechkin] was going for a change, then there was a hit and a push and a big scrum," Morrison said. "I really didn't see anything. I think [Chimera] just bumped him coming off the ice, just trying to stir the pot more than anything."

And from the Columbus guys:

Jason Chimera: "He kind of throw a punch at me, and then [Boll] kind of got into it and it was a mess. There was no intent to hurt somebody out there. He just hit me pretty hard that one shift, so I just let him know 'You're not going to hit me like that all game,' so I pushed him a bit, he punched me back in the face, and a couple shifts later he's off the ice, so I hope he's all right."

Jared Boll: "[Ovechkin] jumped in and I jumped in . The ref said I didn't stop (quick enough) so I got the misconduct. I had him, I don't know what happened. His arm might have got caught on the bench. We stick together and that has been the motto from day one."
